Static IP Add-On

Starry offers both new and existing customers the option to select a static IP address add-on, perfect for remote access to your home network, online gaming, and Wi-Fi-enabled security systems.

What is Static IP vs Dynamic IP

There are two types of IP addresses: static and dynamic. A static IP address, once assigned to a device, does not change whereas a dynamic IP address changes every time that device connects to the internet.

Set Up

There is no manual set up. Your Static IP is assigned automatically via DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol), so there’s no need to configure your router manually. Once you select the add-on either during sign up or through My Account, no further action is required.

This add-on is available for $10/month and will be included in your monthly billing statement as a line item. You can remove this add-on at any time and it will be automatically canceled when your service is canceled.

If you’re using your own router, you can set your IP manually using a static IP configuration.

You will need to make a DHCP request to receive your IP information. Once you have that, you can copy and paste the details into your device’s static IP settings (this can be done from any device that uses your IP address).

Router Replacement

Your IP address is tied to your router’s MAC address. If your router stays the same, your IP will too. If you need to swap your router, you'll get a new IP address, since the MAC address changes.
